What to do with your e-book file

You are here because you have just received an e-book from us. It will have come as an attachment to an email, with a name that looks something like ‘September 2024 - Universalis.epub’.

Now you have the book, you have to get it onto your e-book reader.

Reading on a Kindle

You can use Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” service to get the e-book onto your Kindle. Here are the instructions.

If your e-book is more than one month long, “Send to Kindle” probably won’t work. More advanced options are available to get round this.

Reading on other e-readers

For most e-readers, the pattern is that you connect your e-reader to your computer, and it appears as a folder on your desktop. Then you drag your chosen e-book file onto it.

Different e-readers work in different ways, and some have a different way of getting an e-book onto the device. Here is a page for Kobo.

Reading on your iPhone/iPad or Android device

Although we recommend that you use a Universalis app on your device rather than reading e-books, you can still read e-books on your device if you really want.

To read e-books, you need an app. On iPhone/iPad this is the built-in Books app. On Android, it varies.

Sometimes you can just tap on the attached file in the email you received. Sometimes you have to hold down your finger and say either “Open” or “Share”, and then pick the app you want to use.

Reading on your computer

Again, we recommend that you use a Universalis program on your computer directly, rather than creating e-books and reading them. But you can still read e-books if you want.

The exact details depend on what email program you have. Sometimes double-clicking on the attached file in the email is enough. Sometimes you need to right-click and pick “Open” from the menu. Sometimes it is best to drag the file onto your desktop first, and double-click or right-click it there.

Please note that the e-books you create are for your private use only and must not be given or distributed to other people.
