E-books onto Kindle: advanced
The simplest way of getting an e-book from the Universalis website onto the Kindle is to use Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” service. Our instructions are here.
“Send to Kindle” is limited in the size of e-books it can handle, and if you give it an e-book that is too large, either nothing happens at all or you get a nonsensical message from Amazon about a system error.
In that case you have to do two things.
- Get the e-book file in Amazon’s own “.mobi” format instead of the standard ePub format.
- Once you have the .mobi file on your computer, connect your computer to your Kindle and copy the file directly to the Kindle.
- Plug your Kindle into your computer, and it should appear in Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows) as a disk drive called “Kindle”. Sometimes it is called something different, such as“Kindle Paperwhite”.
- Within the “Kindle” drive, navigate to the “Documents” folder.
- Drag your .mobi file into that folder. (This is easiest if you have put the .mobi file on your desktop to start with.)
- Eject the “Kindle” drive. You may see an Eject button next to the drive name, or you may need to right-click on the drive name and select “Eject” from the menu.
Please note that the e-books you create are for your private use
only and must not be given or distributed to other people.
