Inclitus rector pater atque prudens,
cuius insígnem cólimus triúmphum,
iste conféssor sine fine lætus
regnat in astris.
Ipse dux clarus fuit et magíster,
éxhibens sacræ documénta vitæ
ac Deo semper sátagens placére
péctore mundo.
Nunc eum nisu rogitémus omnes,
ábluat nostrum pius ut reátum,
et sua ducat prece nos ad alta
cúlmina cæli.
Sit Deo soli decus et potéstas,
laus in excélsis, honor ac perénnis,
qui suis totum móderans gubérnat
légibus orbem. Amen.

Who are these like stars appearing,
these, before God’s throne who stand?
Each a golden crown is wearing;
who are all this glorious band?
Alleluia! Hark, they sing,
praising loud their heavenly King.
Who are these of dazzling brightness,
clothed in God’s own righteousness?
These, whose robes of purest whiteness,
shall their lustre still possess,
still untouched by time’s rude hand?
Whence came all this glorious band?
These are they who have contended
for their Saviour’s honour long,
wrestling on till life was ended,
following not the sinful throng;
these who well the fight sustained,
triumph through the Lamb have gained.
These are they whose hearts were riven,
sore with woe and anguish tried,
who in prayer full oft have striven
with the God they glorified;
now, their painful conflict o’er,
God has bid them weep no more.
These, the Almighty contemplating,
did as priests before him stand,
soul and body always waiting
day and night at his command:
now in God’s most holy place
blest they stand before his face.

| Psalm 35 (36)

Dominus, creator mundi, populum suum protegit
Dómine, magnus es tu, et præclárus in virtúte tua.
1Incípite Deo meo in týmpanis,*
cantáte Dómino meo in cýmbalis,
modulámini illi psalmum novum,*
exaltáte et invocáte nomen ipsíus.
2Tu es Deus cónterens bella,†
qui ponis castra in médio pópuli tui,*
ut erípias me de manu persequéntium me.
13Cantábo Deo meo hymnum novum:†
Dómine, magnus es tu et clarus,*
mirábilis in virtúte et insuperábilis.
14Tibi sérviat omnis creatúra tua,*
quóniam dixísti, et facta sunt,
misísti spíritum tuum, et ædificáta sunt,*
et non est, qui resístat voci tuæ.
15Montes enim a fundaméntis agitabúntur cum aquis,*
petræ autem a fácie tua tamquam cera liquéscent.
Illis autem qui timent te*
propítius adhuc eris.
Glória Patri et Fílio*
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio et nunc et semper*
et in sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.
Dómine, magnus es tu, et præclárus in virtúte tua.

The Lord, creator of the world, protects his peopleLord, you are great, you are glorious, you are wonderfully strong.
Make music to my God with drums,
sing to my Lord with cymbals.
Begin a new song to him,
extol and call upon his name.
You are the God who crushes battle-lines,
you set up your camp among your people,
you save me from the grip of my persecutors.
I will sing a new song to God:
Lord, you are great and glorious,
wonderful in your unconquerable power.
Let all your creatures serve you,
for you spoke and they were made,
you sent forth your spirit, and they were created:
there is no-one who can resist your command.
For the mountains will be shaken to their roots,
the seas will be stirred up,
at your sight the rocks will melt like wax –
but to those who fear you,
you will show your loving kindness.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Lord, you are great, you are glorious, you are wonderfully strong.

Ps 46:2-10
| Psalm 46 (47)

Mementóte præpositórum vestrórum, qui vobis locúti sunt verbum Dei, quorum intuéntes éxitum conversatiónis imitámini fidem. Iesus Christus heri et hódie idem, et in sǽcula! Doctrínis váriis et peregrínis nolíte abdúci.
|
Remember your leaders, who preached the word of God to you, and as you reflect on the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same today as he was yesterday and as he will be for ever. Do not let yourselves be led astray by all sorts of strange doctrines.

I placed watchmen on your towers, Jerusalem.
– I placed watchmen on your towers, Jerusalem.
They will never cease to tell of the name of the Lord, by day and by night.
– I placed watchmen on your towers, Jerusalem.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
– I placed watchmen on your towers, Jerusalem.

in domo David púeri sui,
sicut locútus est per os sanctórum,*
qui a sæculo sunt, prophetárum eius,
salútem ex inimícis nostris*
et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos;
in remissiónem peccatórum eórum,
per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri,*
in quibus visitábit nos óriens ex alto,
illumináre his, qui in ténebris et in umbra mortis sedent*
ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.
Glória Patri et Fílio*
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio et nunc et semper*
et in sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.

The Messiah and his forerunnerVincent comforted those in grief. He was the protector of orphans, and benefactor of widows.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has come to his people and brought about their redemption.
He has raised up the sign of salvation
in the house of his servant David,
as he promised through the mouth of the holy ones,
his prophets through the ages:
to rescue us from our enemies
and all who hate us,
to take pity on our fathers,
to remember his holy covenant
and the oath he swore to Abraham our father,
that he would give himself to us,
that we could serve him without fear
– freed from the hands of our enemies –
in uprightness and holiness before him,
for all of our days.
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High:
for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his path,
to let his people know their salvation,
so that their sins may be forgiven.
Through the bottomless mercy of our God,
one born on high will visit us
to give light to those who walk in darkness,
who live in the shadow of death;
to lead our feet in the path of peace.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Vincent comforted those in grief. He was the protector of orphans, and benefactor of widows.

nos in sanctitáte iúgiter per pastóres nostros ædífica.
– Pasce pópulum tuum, Dómine.

Christ, the good shepherd, laid down his life for his sheep. Let us praise him with grateful hearts, as we pray:
– Lord, nourish the lives of your people.
Christ our Lord, in the holy pastors you reveal your love for us;
may we never be deprived of the care you show through them.
– Lord, nourish the lives of your people.
Through your sacred ministers you are present in our midst as the shepherd of our souls;
never cease to guide us through their teaching and encouragement.
– Lord, nourish the lives of your people.
In the saints who lead your people, you manifest your power of healing souls and bodies;
remain always with us to renew our lives in holiness.
– Lord, nourish the lives of your people.
By the example of the saints you instruct your faithful in the ways of wisdom and love;
through our pastors, help us grow to the full stature of perfection.
– Lord, nourish the lives of your people.

Pater noster, qui es in cælis:
sanctificétur nomen tuum;
advéniat regnum tuum;
fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;
et dimítte nobis débita nostra,
sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;
et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem;
sed líbera nos a malo.
| Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
|
Amen.
| Father, you endowed Saint Vincent de Paul with the spirit of an apostle
to give himself to the service of the poor and to the training of priests.
Give us a share of the same spirit
that we may love what he loved
and do as he taught us.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
|
Amen.
| The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
