On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry
Announces that the Lord is nigh;
Come then and hearken, for he brings
Glad tidings from the King of kings.
Then cleansed be every Christian breast,
And furnished for so great a guest!
Yea, let us each his heart prepare
For Christ to come and enter there.
For thou art our salvation, Lord,
Our refuge and our great reward;
Without thy grace our souls must fade,
And wither like a flower decayed.
Stretch forth thine hand, to heal our sore,
And make us rise to fall no more;
Once more upon thy people shine,
And fill the world with love divine.
All praise, eternal Son, to thee,
Whose Advent sets thy people free,
Whom, with the Father, we adore,
And Holy Ghost, for evermore.

God the SaviourGod planned to bring all things together under Christ when the fullness of time had come.
Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us, in Christ,
with every spiritual blessing in heaven.
In love, he chose us before the creation of the world,
to be holy and spotless in his sight.
He predestined us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ,
simply because it pleased him to do so.
This he did for the praise of the glory of his grace,
of his free gift to us in his Beloved,
in whose blood we have gained redemption,
and the forgiveness of our sins.
This he did according to the riches of his grace,
which he gave us in abundance,
with all wisdom and discernment,
revealing to us the mysteries of his will,
because it pleased him to do so.
In this action he has planned, in the fulfilment of time,
to bring all things together in Christ,
from the heavens and from the earth.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
God planned to bring all things together under Christ when the fullness of time had come.

|
We are waiting for our saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transfigure these wretched bodies of ours into copies of his glorious body. He will do that by the same power with which he can subdue the whole universe.

Exsultatio animæ in DominoEcce Rex venit, Dóminus terræ, et ipse áuferet iugum captivitátis nostræ.
Magníficat*
ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus*
in Deo salvatóre meo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede*
et exaltávit húmiles;
esuriéntes implévit bonis*
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Israel púerum suum,*
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,*
Abraham et sémini eius in sǽcula.
Glória Patri et Fílio*
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio et nunc et semper*
et in sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.
Ecce Rex venit, Dóminus terræ, et ipse áuferet iugum captivitátis nostræ.

My soul rejoices in the LordSee, the King, the Lord of the earth is coming. He will take the burden of captivity from our shoulders.
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God, my salvation.
For he has shown me such favour –
me, his lowly handmaiden.
Now all generations will call me blessed,
because the mighty one has done great things for me.
His name is holy,
his mercy lasts for generation after generation
for those who revere him.
He has put forth his strength:
he has scattered the proud and conceited,
torn princes from their thrones;
but lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel,
he has remembered his mercy as he promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
See, the King, the Lord of the earth is coming. He will take the burden of captivity from our shoulders.

quos in ténebris ignorántiæ tui cónspicis detinéri.
– Veni, Dómine Iesu.
Qui, humiliátus, iniquitátem nostram abstulísti,
gloriósus, beatitúdinis prǽmia nobis largíre.
– Veni, Dómine Iesu.
Qui ventúrus es ad iudícium maniféste,
defúnctos fratres ad cælórum regnum perdúcas.
– Veni, Dómine Iesu.
|
The Lord who is to come is the Judge of the living and the dead.
– Christ, have mercy.
We thank you for the mercy you have shown us:
let your compassion support us in our weakness.
– Christ, have mercy.
You humbled yourself to wash away our guilt:
forgive us the times when we have been indifferent to your pardon.
– Christ, have mercy.
Grant us also a spirit of understanding
to forgive as we ourselves are forgiven.
– Christ, have mercy.
If you should mark the guilt of those who have died,
Lord, who would survive?
– Christ, have mercy.
|
Pater noster, qui es in cælis:
sanctificétur nomen tuum;
advéniat regnum tuum;
fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;
et dimítte nobis débita nostra,
sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;
et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem;
sed líbera nos a malo.
| Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
|
Dirigátur, quǽsumus, Dómine, in conspéctu tuo nostræ petitiónis orátio, ut ad magnum incarnatiónis Unigéniti tui mystérium nostræ vota servitútis illibáta puritáte pervéniant.
Per Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum, Fílium tuum,
qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus,
per ómnia sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.
| Let our prayers rise like incense before you, Lord,
so that we may come in humility and purity of heart
to celebrate the great mystery of your Son’s incarnation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
|
Dóminus nos benedícat, et ab omni malo deféndat, et ad vitam perdúcat ætérnam.
Amen.
| The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
