ePub format
The ePub e-book format is used by the Sony Reader and other devices. You can also use various programs to read it on your PC, on your handheld, or on your iPhone.
Using the Universalis download, you can create an e-book of Universalis for your own private use. You can select the local calendar and other options, and you can choose to create an e-book for a single day, a week, or a month. Download a sample of Universalis in the ePub format so that you can see how it works.
First, download and install the Universalis program for Windows. You need a version dated 25-Jul-2009 or later.
- Make sure you have your preferred local calendar selected, and go to the date for which you would like to create your e-book.
- Open the Options menu. In the normal mode, you do this by clicking on the arrow in the top left-hand corner of the Universalis window. In Screen Reader mode, you'll find the Options menu in the menu bar along the top of the window.
- You will see a menu item saying "Save in ePub Format". Click on it.
- Next, choose how many days you want your e-book to contain: "Today", "This Week", or "This Month".
- Finally, navigate to the folder into which you want to store the e-book, and then click on "Save".
Where to store your e-book
Which folder you store your e-book in depends on how you are planning to read it.
If you are reading e-books directly on your PC, your e-book software will have designated a particular folder as a home for all your e-books. Store your e-book there.
If you are using a separate device to read your e-books, there are two things that can happen:
- Your device may appear as a folder on your PC when you plug it in. In that
case, you usually need to store the e-book file into a folder within
the device. For instance, we're told that the Amazon Kindle 2 uses '
documents' and the Sony PR505 uses 'database > media > books'. Consult the documentation for your device, or explore its folders and see where other e-books are stored. - The software that came with your device may require you to put your e-books in a specific folder so that they can then be transferred to that device when the device is plugged in. This is less common. Again, consult your device's documentation.
If you want more than one month at a time
Universalis creates e-books for a day, a week, or a month. If you need a longer period than this, simply adjust the date you are viewing. For example, to get January, February and March, get Universalis to view a date in January, create a one-month e-book, get it to view a date in February, create a one-month e-book, and so on. All the e-books have a different filename, so there won't be any confusion.
Please note that the e-books you create are for your private use only and must not be given or distributed to other people.
