Updating Universalis

Recent versions of the Universalis program for the Mac check this site from time to time to see if a new version is available.

Alternatively, you can check for yourself. Look at the version number in the top right-hand corner of this page, and compare it with the version number the program reports to you when you use the command Universalis > About Universalis.

Before you start

If you have the Universalis program open, close it before updating.

Using Safari

The download will start automatically. The download indicator at the top right of the Safari window will show its progress. When the download has finished:

  1. Click on the download indicator to see the list of downloaded files.
  2. Double-click on the downloaded Universalis installation file. This will usually be called Universalis.pkg, but Safari may add a numeric suffix to the filename if you have downloaded the Universalis installer in the past.

Using Firefox

A window will pop up asking you if you want to save this file. Choose "Save File". When the download has finished, you will see the file Universalis.pkg listed in the Downloads window. Either double-click on the filename or click on the "Open" link next to it.

Installation

Once you have opened the Universalis.pkg file, the installation is automatic: just follow the instructions.

WARNING: If your current version of Universalis is version 2.81 or older (dated before 28 January 2019) then you will have to delete it by hand from your Applications folder before installing the update. We apologize for this: a change we had to make to the program makes Apple’s installer unable to replace a version older than 2.82.
