Registration codes

On the Mac, the program you download acts as a Catholic Calendar program, plus a month's free trial of the full Universalis features.

To activate these features permanently, you need a registration code.

Getting a registration code

To buy a registration code, visit the Buy a Registration Code page.

unless...

If you have already bought a Universalis registration code for some other computer that you own, don't buy another code: simply use the one you already have.

If you own an iPhone or iPod Touch, buy the Universalis application from the iPhone App Store, because the application can synthesize a registration code for you.

Entering the registration code

A registration code you have bought

IllustrationOnce you have the code:

  1. Start the downloaded Universalis program on your Mac.
  2. Select Universalis > Preferences from the menu. This will open the Preferences window.
  3. The Preferences window has two tabs: Calendar and Registration. Select the Registration tab.
  4. Press the button marked "Enter registration code".
  5. Enter the 9-digit registration code. You don't need to enter the hyphens. For example, if the code is 123-456-789, you can enter 123456789.
  6. Press the button marked "Done".

A registration code from the iPhone

If you have Universalis for the iPhone, you can activate Universalis on another system by proving to it that you have the iPhone version. The procedure is straightforward: the registration page asks you to type in a code that's displayed at the bottom of a particular page on the iPhone. Here is what you have to do. You don't need an active Internet connection.

  1. Follow the instructions given above, under "A registration code you have bought", as far as the point where you have opened a window asking for the registration code.
  2. Look at the window that's asking for the registration code, and make a note of the date that is shown at the bottom of the window. For example, 28-Oct-2014.
  3. Leave the window open. This is important because if you close the window and open it again, it may ask about a different date.
  4. On your iPhone, open Universalis. From the calendar display, press the "Pick" button at the top left-hand corner. This will take you to the date picker.
  5. In the date picker, select the date that you've noted (for example, 28 October 2014). Do not select today's date. Do not select 28 October 2014 (it was only an example). Press the "Done" button. This will take you back to the calendar display.
  6. Press the "Read" button at the top right - or just tap the selected date.
  7. You need the About Today page. If the page you see is not About Today, press the "Hour" button at the top right and select "About Today" from the list.
  8. Scroll down to the bottom of the About Today page. You will see a message that tells you a registration code. The code will be a mixture of letters and numbers.
  9. Back in the window you left open, enter the code that was displayed by the iPhone. It won't be F9F-5AA-3FA: that was only an example.
  10. Your copy of Universalis is now registered.

There is no need to make a note of this synthetic registration code. If you ever need to re-register your copy - perhaps because your computer crashed and you had to reinstall everything - then you will need an iPhone with Universalis on it so that you can go through this procedure again.

If the registration code isn't accepted, check that the date you're viewing on the iPhone is the same as the date that your registration page is asking for. Also check that your system has the right idea of what date it is today. Big computers usually do, but a palmtop whose battery has run down completely can sometimes find itself back in 2005 without you noticing.

To remove a registration code

If you are selling or giving away your Mac then you should remove the registration code even if you decide to leave the Universalis software intact – unless you are specifically intending to give away the Universalis software along with the Mac and will no longer be using it yourself.

  1. Start the Universalis program on your Mac.
  2. Select Universalis > Preferences from the menu. This will open the Preferences window.
  3. The Preferences window has two tabs: Calendar and Registration. Select the Registration tab.
  4. Press the button marked "Remove registration code".
