Select your local calendar

Current calendar: England - Plymouth.

If the calendar identified above is not your local calendar, then carry on reading this page.

Every part of the world has its own local calendar, with special saints and feasts of local importance. Universalis handles some of these calendars, and, in due course, we hope to handle more and more.

  1. Look for your local calendar in the list on the right. If it is there, click on it. If it is not there, choose another calendar to use, or the General Calendar if nothing else seems right.
  2. Once you have clicked, nothing much will seem to have changed, but you'll see that the "Current Calendar" setting at the top of this page now corresponds to the location you clicked on. If you're very keen-sighted you'll notice that the page address that your browser reports has also changed to reflect the new local calendar.

If you now go back to the daily pages (using one of the links on the left), you'll see that the new calendar is being used.

If you are using bookmarks to open Universalis each day, you should update those bookmarks so that the page address includes the calendar name. See below for details. It isn't always necessary to do this, because Universalis sets a cookie to record your choice of calendar, but it never does any harm.

How the calendar appears in a Universalis address

If you look at the address bar in your browser, you will see whether a particulat calendar is being specified in the Universalis address that you use. Here is a typical Universalis address without a calendar name:

http://www.universalis.com/today.htm

This will give you the General Calendar, or (if you have cookies enabled) the calendar that you have used most recently.

As an example, here is the same address set to use the Maltese local calendar:

http://www.universalis.com/Europe.Malta/today.htm

You can use this information to check that the right calendar is being used, and to create Universalis addresses that select the calendar you want.

If your calendar is not listed

We are always looking for more calendars to add, to make Universalis more complete. If you can give us the necessary information, we'll happily add your local calendar. This page will tell you what information we need.
