Magnis prophétæ vócibus
veníre Christum núntiant,
lætæ salútis prǽvia,
qua nos redémit, grátia.
Hinc mane nostrum prómicat
et corda læta exǽstuant,
cum vox fidélis pérsonat
prænuntiátrix glóriæ.
Advéntus hic primus fuit,
puníre quo non sǽculum
venit, sed ulcus térgere,
salvándo quod períerat.
At nos secúndus prǽmonet
adésse Christum iánuis,
sanctis corónas réddere
cælíque regna pándere.
Ætérna lux promíttitur
sidúsque salvans prómitur;
iam nos iubar præfúlgidum
ad ius vocat cæléstium.
Te, Christe, solum quǽrimus
vidére, sicut es Deus,
ut perpes hæc sit vísio
perénne laudis cánticum.
Amen.

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!
O come, now Wisdom from on high,
Who orders all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!
O come, O come, now Lord of might,
Who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times you gave the law,
In cloud, and majesty, and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Ps 85:1-17
| Psalm 85 (86)

Deus iudicabit in iustitia
15Qui ámbulat in iustítiis*
et lóquitur æquitátes,
qui réicit lucra ex rapínis*
et éxcutit manus suas, ne múnera accípiat,
qui obtúrat aures suas, ne áudiat sánguinem,*
et claudit óculos suos, ne vídeat malum:
16iste in excélsis habitábit,*
muniménta saxórum refúgium eius;
panis ei datus est,*
aquæ eius fidéles sunt.
Glória Patri et Fílio*
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio et nunc et semper*
et in sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.

The Lord will give just judgementAbout Sion I will not be silent until her Holy One shines forth like light.
Hear what I have done, you who are far off,
and you who are near, learn of my strength.
In Zion, the sinners are afraid;
the hypocrites tremble.
Which of you could live with a devouring fire?
Which of you will abide in everlasting burning?
He who walks in justice, he who speaks fairly –
he who rejects the spoils of robbery –
he who throws back a bribe –
he who blocks his ears against murderous counsels –
he who shuts his eyes against evil sights –
this is he who will dwell on high, secure in a fortress of rocks.
Bread is given to him; his supply of water is secure.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
About Sion I will not be silent until her Holy One shines forth like light.

Ps 97:1-9
| Psalm 97 (98)
|
|
A shoot springs from the stock of Jesse, a scion thrusts from his roots: on him the spirit of the Lord rests, a spirit of wisdom and insight, a spirit of counsel and power, a spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is his delight.

℣. Super te, Ierúsalem, * Oriétur Dóminus. Super te.

The glory of the Lord will shine on you, Jerusalem. Like the sun he will rise over you.
– The glory of the Lord will shine on you, Jerusalem. Like the sun he will rise over you.
His glory will appear in your midst.
– The glory of the Lord will shine on you, Jerusalem. Like the sun he will rise over you.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
– The glory of the Lord will shine on you, Jerusalem. Like the sun he will rise over you.

in domo David púeri sui,
sicut locútus est per os sanctórum,*
qui a sæculo sunt, prophetárum eius,
salútem ex inimícis nostris*
et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos;
in remissiónem peccatórum eórum,
per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri,*
in quibus visitábit nos óriens ex alto,
illumináre his, qui in ténebris et in umbra mortis sedent*
ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.
Glória Patri et Fílio*
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio et nunc et semper*
et in sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.

The Messiah and his forerunnerKnow that the kingdom of God is at hand; be sure that he will not delay.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has come to his people and brought about their redemption.
He has raised up the sign of salvation
in the house of his servant David,
as he promised through the mouth of the holy ones,
his prophets through the ages:
to rescue us from our enemies
and all who hate us,
to take pity on our fathers,
to remember his holy covenant
and the oath he swore to Abraham our father,
that he would give himself to us,
that we could serve him without fear
– freed from the hands of our enemies –
in uprightness and holiness before him,
for all of our days.
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High:
for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his path,
to let his people know their salvation,
so that their sins may be forgiven.
Through the bottomless mercy of our God,
one born on high will visit us
to give light to those who walk in darkness,
who live in the shadow of death;
to lead our feet in the path of peace.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Know that the kingdom of God is at hand; be sure that he will not delay.

Deum Patrem, qui antíqua dispositióne pópulum suum salváre státuit, orémus dicéntes:
– Custódi plebem tuam, Dómine.
Deus, qui pópulo tuo germen iustítiæ promisísti,
custódi sanctitátem Ecclésiæ tuæ.
– Custódi plebem tuam, Dómine.
Inclína cor hóminum, Deus, in verbum tuum
et confírma fidéles tuos sine queréla in sanctitáte.
– Custódi plebem tuam, Dómine.
Consérva nos in dilectióne Spíritus tui,
Confírma nos, Deus clementíssime, usque in finem,
in diem advéntus Dómini nostri Iesu Christi.
– Custódi plebem tuam, Dómine.

The Lord, our God, is coming: let us put aside fear, and look forward to the future with courage.
– Your kingdom come!
Lord, you make all things and renew them:
all creation displays your work.
– Your kingdom come!
You have given us dominion over the earth:
may our work have a share of your creative power.
– Your kingdom come!
We pray for those who work for the relief of suffering in others;
may they also know comfort and understanding.
– Your kingdom come!
Bless us as we work;
give us faith until the end, when our labours will receive their reward.
– Your kingdom come!

Pater noster, qui es in cælis:
sanctificétur nomen tuum;
advéniat regnum tuum;
fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;
et dimítte nobis débita nostra,
sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;
et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem;
sed líbera nos a malo.
| Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
|
Deus, humánæ cónditor et redémptor natúræ, qui Verbum tuum in útero perpétuæ virginitátis carnem assúmere voluísti, réspice propítius ad preces nostras, ut Unigénitus tuus, nostra humanitáte suscépta, nos divíno suo consórtio sociáre dignétur.
Per Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum, Fílium tuum,
qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus,
per ómnia sǽcula sæculórum.
Amen.
| Father,
by your will your Son took upon himself
that human nature which you fashioned and redeemed.
Grant that the Word who took flesh
in the womb of the ever-virgin Mary
and became a man like us
may share with us his godhead.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
|
Amen.
| The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
