Downloading & installation

The program will run on Windows XP and above, including Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. It will run on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

Instructions (Windows 10, Microsoft Edge)

The details of installation will vary slightly with different browsers and different versions of Windows, but the principles will be the same.

Download the installer

Start the installation

Microsoft Edge will display a grey bar at the bottom of its window, asking you what you want to do with the download:

Next to this message there will be three buttons: Run, Save, and Cancel. Press Run.

Windows Defender

Windows Defender is written and controlled by Microsoft. Sometimes it appears at this stage; sometimes it does not. If it does not appear, just skip to the next step in these instructions.

Windows Defender SmartScreen is a feature which Microsoft say protects you against suspicious software. The first screen it displays can look quite alarming:

In fact all Windows Defender is really doing is counting how many other people have installed the software. Since Universalis is not used by millions of people, Windows Defender deduces that it is “risky”.

Click on the "More info" link at the bottom of the message.

The message will change, to look like this:

Check that the “Publisher” shown on your screen really is Universalis Publishing Limited, and press Run anyway.

User Account Control

Now that Windows Defender has allowed the download to run, Windows itself asks you whether you want to run the installer:

At the bottom of this message there are buttons marked Yes and No. Press Yes.

The Universalis installer

You are nearly there! The Universalis installer opens and shows you this screen:

NOTE: In some cases Microsoft will hide the Universalis installer behind the web browser, so that you can’t see it or use it. If this happens to you, try minimising the browser and you will see our installer appear.

Read the licence agreement, click on Yes, I agree, and the “Next” button will become active. Press Next.

Operating instructions

You now have the Universalis program installed on your computer.

Here are operating instructions.

Trial period and registration codes

To start with, the program works as a free one-month trial version. You can either try it out during the trial period or enter a registration code at once to make it a full, unrestricted version.
